Marilyn's Story

Life I was an Army Brat, moving from Maine to Texas, to Germany, to Maryland, and finally to Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania move had nothing to do with being an Army Brat, it's just where fate took me. I've lived in several places in Pennsylvania, but then, I've been here since 1968. I think I'm finally settled for good, in Shippensburg, a small college town. I've been married twice. The first ended in divorce after four years, the second ended in death in 1997. The first one seemed to last forever, the second wasn't nearly long enough. I was able to retire early because my husband's death was work-related. My mother's death made it possible for me to live quite 'confortably'. Lately, I've been sort of hanging out, and doing what I want to do. But I'm getting ideas on things I'd like to do. Taking cruises is one of them. Vacation trips by car is also an idea. I've been thinking lately that I feel pretty much as I did that day my senior year in high school, when I looked around, wondering where the 'big kids' were. Then suddenly realized that we, my classmates and I, *were* th...Expand for more
e 'big kids'. I don't feel a day older in my head, I just have a lot more mileage now. The body may be older now, but I'm sure not. You can't grow old until you grow up, and I have no intentions of doing that. Second childhood, hell. I'm not done with my first one yet. I'm still into the fantasy role playing games, but now on-line. I'm still dabbling in history and am a member of a non-profit educational group called the Society for Creative Anachronism. We re-create the middle ages. If you google "pennsic war" on the internet, you can get an idea of what I do. Last year I spent 5 months in the hospital system, originally for a triple by-pass, but a couple of things went wrong and recovery took a while. I now live alone, with my four Maine Coon Cats, those 'gentle giants' which is the only breed native to this country. And to my home state. I am regularly only in touch with 2 of my Andover classmates. Not many of the class bothered with me then, either. But I never needed others to tell me who I am. But feel free to contact me, if you wish. There's more to me than you ever knew.
