Marilyn's Story
Life
After high school I went to Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas for two years. When I graduated from there I attended Abilene Christian College graduating in 1973 with a teaching degree. I went back to school in 95/96 and received a masters degree in Educational, Vocational and Special Ed. counseling. During my studies I met and married my husband Floyd. We have three adult children a son,two daughters and one grandson.
We are active in church and the community activities.
Workplace
I have been working for the state since 1993. I am a teacher in a maximum security prison here. For 5 years prior to that, I was a public school substitue teacher. That was excellent training for my present position. I have two good groups of students and I really do enjoy my job.
Well my work has ended with the state after 19 years of teaching. August 31, 2011 was my last day of work. It is time to move on to other things. I"m not sure what that will be, but it is my desire to be where God want's me to be.
Six years ago in 2005 my husband and I started a community based news paper. We decided to name the paper the West Texas Tribune. It is on the web under the same name and it ends with dot com. If you get a chance, look it up and tell me what you think.

lways wanted to be a doctor when I was growing up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, we were all wrong.
A DAY I WILL NOT FORGET
I'll never forget the day Raymond Panky fell on my head. I was about three years old and playing in the back yard with a bunch of older kids. Some one decided to get some junk from the vacant lot behind our yard. They got a corrigated board about six or eight feet long and put one end on the top of the shed in the back yard and the other end on the ground. Then some one else decided to put a wire rack at the top of the board on the roof of the shed and create a gigantic slide. Wow! what creativty and genious was going on in that yard that day! The first person went down the slide. What speed, grace, and finess. And my brother stood on the ground under the slide. Oh, the nerve and bravery. So I decided to stand under the slide when Ramond Panky slid down. I was not as fortunate as my brother. The slide broke when he was about half way down and Raymond and the slide hit me square on top of my head and knocked me to the ground. I was thinking bad idea, bad idea. My daddy came out side, picked me up and took me inside. I did not cry. I was too stunned, but that is a day I will not forget.
I think there is a moral in there somewhere.
