Marion's Story

Life Met my husband in the autumn of 1969 and we were married in 1972. Lived in New Haven for a while before moving to the Meriden-Wallingford area where we stayed until our recent move to Florida 6 years ago. No biological children although we currently have 3 fur-babies: Max, Zena, and Amber. School Didn't really have any crushes during our years at SHS. Found my best friend and soulmate in 1969 when I met my future husband. In many ways each of my high school teachers were an inspiration to me because of their varied styles and personalities. Enjoyed my time learning languages so I guess my language arts teachers were the most inspirational. Enjoyed the creative writing club and being on the school newspaper staff the most. College What a letdown college was! I wasn't anticipating the complete disassociation of the professors from the students and I believe that is what put me off from my goal of teaching. Completed 2 semesters at Univ of Bridgeport but later went to SCSC for 4 evening semesters and CCSC in Middletown for 2 more evening semesters in pursuit of a busines degree. Enjoyed those classes because both teachers and students really wanted to be there. Writing Even as a youngster I wanted to be a writer. Words and language have always intrigued me. Maybe that was why having 5 years of Latin (at SHS & UB)didn't seem like a weird prospect to me. During my years at St. Michael's I began writing really short stories and poems. What really fed my hunger to be a writer was my assignment to the High Echo (high school newspaper). Seems like I was always creating characters on paper and stor...Expand for more
ing them away in a notebook. Wasn't until I hit my 40s that I seriously undertook the beginnings of my first novel. Lots of stops and starts but finally it got done! Now I've written three novels, a few short stories, a dozen or so murder/mystery games, and I've become a part time blogger on a couple of the social network sites. Even though my family and friends weren't quite as encouraging as I would have liked, I believe I've accomplished one of my life goals. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. Along the way I realized that I just don't have the patience needed to teach. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my dad, because he is a hero in my eyes. I had no idea what he put up with from my mom until he passed away in 2001. He was a strong man, yet caring and loving. I miss him immensely. Hate reality TV except for Dancing With the Stars! Mostly like the music and crazy Bruno. My first crush was in grammar school - he ended up joining a seminary. Same thing happened with my second crush - go figure, huh? Most folks will remember me as a quiet, shy, unassuming girl who dressed plain/dowdy. In reality, I am very outgoing, love to laugh, and love glitter, sequins, feathers, and ruffles on my clothes. Sort of like I was the caterpillar who blossomed into a butterfly. My first job was at Russell Linen (I was 10 years old), I got paid 25 cents to fold a hopper full of towels. My mom worked there on the clothes presses and in summer the boss would let me 'earn' some money.
