Mark's Story
Life
My Pets
I have a cat named Merlin, rescued from the Humane Society the day after Thanksgiving. He helped me maintain my sanity after my second divorce and continues to be a major source of entertainment in the family. I've had a few cats, but never one that chases his tail like Merlin does.
My Kids and Family
I have two wonderful sons from my second marriage. Andrew is 22 and working to get into vet school. David is 18 and started at Central Michigan University this fall, majoring in education. I am currently in my third, and last marriage, to a wonderful woman, Kathy. So, in addition to my two sons, I have three stepsons (David (22), Rob (26), and Nick, who is married and living in WI with his wife, daughter and son).
My Job
I have been a practicing psychotherapist since 1979, working for 19 years in outpatient mental health. Currently, I am working as a therapist for a private, non-profit in a residential program treating adolescents who have committed sexual offenses. I started working with sexual offenders (adult and adolescent) in outpatient groups, but find that working with them in residential setting is more successful. Don't ask how I ended up specializing in this population (a long story), but the goal is to reduce the number of future victims.
