Mark's Story

Life I also have a profile on Myspace Some of you know, I didn't graduate from FHS. In the middle of Senior year, I moved in with my father and transferred to Brighton High (needed 5 credits instead of the 7 I would have needed at FHS). To my shame and regret, I didn't keep in touch with folks I'd been friends with. To you all, my sincere apologies. That out of the way, after BHS, I got my A.S. in Communication and Media Arts from MCC in August of '91. Spent a year failing out of St. John Fisher and generally trying to do too much at once and messing it all up. Along the way, I was the 965th recipient of Civil Air Patrol's General Carl A. Spaatz leadership award for completion of the CAP cadet program in October 1989, the month before I turned 21 and would no longer be a cadet. While still at FHS, I'd joined the US Army Reserves with the 401st Civil Affairs Company out of Webster (they're now designated a Battalion). In 1991, we were activated for Operation Desert Shield and Storm. I was part of a team posted with the 14th Military Police Brigade out in the middle of the Saudi desert. For my service in the conflict, I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Later, I joined a Drill Sergeant company but never went through the training prior to leaving the reserves in 1994. After failing out of Fisher, I was pretty low and didn't see a whole lot of prospects for myself. Having enjoyed my Army Reserve and Civil Air Patrol experiences, I tried joining the active military. At the time there was down sizing going on, and pretty much all that was open ...Expand for more
for someone with Prior Military Service (PMS) was the Army Band...I have a tin ear...and Special Forces...have a lot of respect for the guys, but I won't ever knowingly eat a snake. Even the Coast Guard turned me down. In 1995, my core group of friends slapped me around enough that I stopped screwing around and got a "real" job contracting with Xerox doing desk side computer support in their research division. In 1997, I was hired directly and then transferred to Xerox Information Management in 1998 where I still work doing infrastructure delivery (project management, architecture, high level engineering, etc). In 1999, I moved to Florida to get married. My wife, Mary Ann, was working for Disney and didn't want to give that up. I moved fully expecting to have to give my job up. Ended up working remotely for three years out of my house in Florida, before moving back to the Rochester area in 2002...am in Penfield now. My wife decided to give up her job and be a stay at home mom after our first child (Michael) was born in 2001. While still in Florida, I went back for my BS in Business Management from a local campus of the University of Phoenix. Graduated with a 3.94...not bad for someone who failed out 10 years prior. Our second child (Katy) was born via emergency C-section on August 14th, 2003...that would be the day of the sweeping black outs throughout the North East. That is a story in and of itself. So here I am, 19 years after High School. Married with two kids (2 and 4) and missing all the great people I lost touch with from days long past.
