Mark's Story

2010 has been a great year. Helped organize our 30 year reunion in October. Had a great time seeing all the people who showed up to the various alumni events. If you weren't able to attend be assured, we missed you. Family is growing like crazy, Maddie a sophmore at Tesoro HS, Peyton in 4th grade, Kary all grown up on her own. Karen now working as a crossing guard in the school district. Still working on the Fireboat in Long Beach Harbor. Looking forward to last part of my firefighting career. Looking to 2011 and my 50th Birthday. Wow! it went fast. It's been almost 28 years since we left school but memories live forever. We had such a great group of kids. I thought I'd never leave HB but it's been 19 years already. Rancho Santa Margarita is a great place to raise a family but HB will always be home. I miss being just a few minutes from the beach, lucky I have a pool. Oh well I could never surf anyways! After school I went to Santa Ana College with a the intent to become a fireman. I look back and think how lucky I was to be hired at 20 years old by Orange County Fire and moved to Long Beach Fire in 1986. It's been a great ride working as a firefighter, paramedic and now a captain. I've worked on engines, trucks, brush engines, airports rigs and now work on a fireboat in Long Beach Harbor. I have the best job I could imagine, except retirement which is closer than I want to think about. My closest friend from Edison is Tim Walsh. Tim has lived in Minnesota...Expand for more
since graduating from Kansas in the mid 80's. We are close friends and I truly enjoy being around Tim and his family. If you want to see Chargers go to a Edison vs FV football game and they'll be there. It a great time! The best thing I've done in my life was marrying my wife Karen. Being young and making money could lead to bad habits, to much partying and misguided priorities. I can truly say Karen changed me for the better. I've been married 15 years and have 3 kids Kary 22yo step, Madeline 13yo and our surprise Peyton 7yo. When I dreamed our a boy when I was young Peyton is what I dreams of, a true fullback, a bull in a china shop but very loving to his mom. Maddy is very athletic playing volleyball and softball besides wonderful grades. Kary is a big girl now on her own but as you can see in our pictures very beautiful and independent. I still have a need to compete so I play racquetball, some softball and golf. Our family enjoy movies, sports and karaoke although I just listen, don't sing. My wife has a terrific voice and used to sing in a band. I take care of the sports and she takes care of the arts. I've been bleased! See you at 30! 2009 just adding on. My daughter Madeline 14, is entering Tesero High School. Hopefully a two sport athlete, volleyball and softball, my son Peyton 9, is playing baseball and flag football, we are very busy around here. My wife Karen in coming up on a very big birthday, what to get? All is well, closing in on retirement.
