Mark's Story
Life
Married and divorced twice.Four children (two sons-the youngest deceased, and two beautiful daughters). My youngest daughter is making me a grandpa again and my oldest daughter, who just got married this past September, is also expecting so I'm going to get TWO new grandchildren in '07! Still working for Qwest (formerly Northwestern Bell/USWest) and still writing and recording music in my basement studio in Roseville, MN., a suburb of St. Paul. Released an album, "In The Moment" in Dec. of 2003 and this month just released my latest album "Indigo Moon". Making music is a lot of fun and since I "wear all the hats" from recording all the parts to post production I have complete artistic control which makes it all even more rewarding. If you're interested, check out my site, MarkCullenMusic.com - or just do a Google search under "mark cullen music" and it will bring up my site and most of the places where my albums and downloads are available. I still get down to KC every other month or so whenever I can work it out. Especially now that I have a grandson, granddaughter, and two more on the way. I met my soulmate almost seven years ago on the net. (I know that sounds corny) She's originally from the former Yugoslavia (Serbia) and moved to the U.S. in 1981. And she speaks better english than I do. Matter of fact, she's continually correcting me on my usage! I went to Serbia in the summer of 2003 to meet the rest of the family. What a blast. America could learn a lot from Eastern European values. Many of those values that we pay lip service to they actually LIVE every day! Remember when almost eveything was closed on Sundays? And there were NO 24hr convenience stores? In many ways, it was a major eye opener. And it reminded me to remember all the truly important things in life like family and friends.

n I say about GHS. There were many times I hated the place and would have rather been anywhere else. But looking back now, I think we all really had a good time. Poor Mrs. Howard-she had me three years straight. And what really amazes me is how much we took for granted. Even though every single person didn't know every other person, we were still small enough to at least know of them. Now I look at my step daughter's senior class of around 1400 kids and see it as more of a small city than a high school. Roseville Area High School has a total student population of almost 4000 students freshman to seniors. Whew! I'm not even sure if Longview College was that big then. But it sure makes me appreciate the smallness and intimacy of Grandview back then. Still don't have too fond memories of Mr. Temple though....
College
After knocking around in the music biz and various odd jobs for roughly 10 years I decided I was due for a change. Playing music for a living has it's fun moments but it was a grueling life style and playing cover tunes wasn't exactly the direction I wanted to go anyway. With a young family back then, I figured it was time to settle down (just a little). Went back to school in 1983 to get a degree in electronics. DeVry Institute of Technology was my choice and I crammed 4 years worth of school into 3. That was only possible because DeVry offered tri-mesters so I could go year round. Needless to say, that was quite a load since I also still worked semi-fulltime. I look back on it now and wonder how I ever managed to do it. I honestly think if I tried to do that now it would most likely be the end of me. But I made a lot of friends and have a lot of fond memories there. The really amazing thing was by some miracle I managed to graduate in the top 5% of my class-in extremely sharp contrast to my academic record at GHS!
