Mark's Story

Where to start? Attended Phoenix College and Colorado State U; finished degree at ASU. Never applied degree field (biology). Have lived all over the US, visiting all but two states, working in information technology. Currently in the Miami, FL area. While roots have been hard to plant, under the circumstances, I do have friends in a lot of places! Married late - 1976 - widowed in 1992. One son, now 25. Never re-married. Have written numerous articles and a couple of books in my area of expertise (information systems security) and am sitting on a number of far more interesting book ideas that I hope to embark on with retirement (assuming that ever happens!). With that eventuality, will probably move back to the family place in AZ or to Idaho, my last residence before Florida. Whichever comes to fruition, I hope to spend a lot of time with a flyrod or rifle in my hands. One think the rambling lifestyle has engendered is the realization of how great we had it, growing up in an area where the outdoors is a part of one's life. Folks move to where I live now, to retire or the spend their vacations, while I cannot wait to get back out West. Guess when one gets used to something, he or she always wants to get back to it. Fortunately, my health has held out pretty well and I am looking forward to an active retirement. Now; if I can just shed this job and Florida residence! ================= Hot damn! Effective August 31, 2009; I put in my last day in the workaday world and have become a genuine retiree! Thought long and hard about where I wanted to go to ride out my remaining years and settled on the place I most enjoyed after leaving Arizona. That is; Idaho. Got there in mid S...Expand for more
eptember, found a home in Meridian, ID and moved in in late October. As usual, the moving process was harrowing, to say the least, but I can honestly say that I am now at home here,, again. I guess many of you will wonder why I didn't return to the Valley, but after 33 years, my folks passing and both my siblings having left the area, there was virtually nothing to draw me back there. This medium - Classmates.Com - is really the first contact I have had with those that I knew when we were all much younger. When I left Idaho some 7 1/2 years ago, I left good friends and a lifestyle I enjoyed. All are still here and I have reveled in renewing old acquaintances. Now, I have to learn how to be retired. No more early wakeups, unless the golf course, a trout stream or the woods calls to me; no more stress of scheduling, late night fixes or thwarting interlopers into company systems. Now, I have time to get back to the things I truly loved as a younger man and experienced too little of during my career. Hope to get back into local theater, do some volunteer work and get some writing done. It will be fun to write something that I enjoy, rather than technical books and articles. Very close to starting on that once more. Now, I'll try to leverage these links to perhaps make contact with some of those folks I knew back when life was simpler and each of us thought we knew what we wanted. As much as anything, it would be worthwhile to explore where each of us wound up, vs. the dreams we spoke of in our youth. One of the greatest perks of having left labors behind, is the ability to travel and take the time to smell the roses we raced by for so many decades. Do you have roses in your gardens?
