Mara's Story
We have all heard how the years pass and how people change. Well for me, this is an incredible understatement. Starting in 2005, I decided to finally resolve a gender identity issue that haunted me for my entire life.
I kept my feelings about my gender identity a secret during my school years as there was just too much discrimination in the 70's, 80's and 90's to let other people in my life, even my closest friends, know what I was truly feeling. But as I got older, my gender/gender identity mismatch caused too much stress, anxiety and depression inside of me. Finally in late 2005, I sought professional help for the feelings I was exeriencing and in 2006 I started a gender transition.
Over the next three years, I completed that transition and since then I have gotten back to a fairly normal life. w live.
I have two great daughters. My oldest daughter graduated suma cum laude (4.0 GPA) from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in graphic design (major) and print making (minor). My youngest daughter graduated magma cum laude (3.97 GPA) from Drexel University with a BS in fashion design. If you haven't noticed, I am very proud of both of them.
I currently develop en route air traffic control software for the FAA (I'm an independent software contractor). In the past, I developed some of the early Internet software used on IBM mainframes. For a while I was a volunteer firefighter and EMT in Woodlawn, and I coached basketball at both the CYO and high school levels.
I hope all my friends from Gibbons and Saint Agnes are healthy and happy.
Anyone wishing to contact me can do so either by phone (I'm listed in the Baltimore white pages) or by contacting me through facebook (I'm fairly easy to find). I would love to hear from old friends, so please send me a note via FB if you are inclined.
Take care...
