Mark's Story

Life Was married for 26 years. Divorced in 2002. Have four children (three grown and one still at home with her mother in Phoenix, AZ). . My older daughter, Heather, graduated from Texas Tech University and is a middle school English teacher in Phoenix, AZ. She just announced her engagement and is planning to be married July 2011. My older son, Bradley, is a field supervisor for a broadband communications company in Jackson, MS. He and is also the proud father of two beautiful little girls, which also makes me a grandfather. My younger son, Daniel, graduated from high school in May 07 and is a student, working on a career in theater production. My younger daughter, Kayla, will begin her sophomore year in high school soon. I married a wonderful woman in October, 2005 who is a true blessing in my life. Lillie is from Albuquerque, NM, but spent over 20 years in the Dallas, TX, area before returning to Albuquerque about 12 years ago. She started out being my "good neighbor" - as in my State Farm insurance agent! She is now the best part of my life and we share our home with an elderly long-haired dachshund and two very energetic hound dog puppies.. I'm very conservative, both politically and socially. I enjoy keeping up with world events and politics. I also enjoy collecting die-cast model aircraft and traveling to places we've never been before. I School I suppose my biggest regret was not taking high school especially seriously, but that's what happens when you don't have any clear goals in mind. Some of us are just slow to realize the true value of education and of life planning. But the good news is that, with the help of an old classmate, I finally figured it out. I graduated with a BS in Applied Management (Magna Cum Laude) on 21 Nov 2006 and am very proud of that accomplishment. Education opens more doors than I ever realized. It's never too late to go back to school! Workplace Spent 20 years in the Air Force, stationed all over the Southwestern United States. Worked for 13 years in accounting and finance and 7 years as a recruiter. Never had a bad assignment and miss the lifestyle and comeraderie. Worked as a restaurant manager for 7 1/2 years after retiring from the Air Force. Anyone who's ever worked i...Expand for more
n that business knows that your work your butt off, put up with a lot of crap, bad hours, and brain-damaged employees only to see the owners get rich or go down in flames. If a restaurant management job was the last one on earth, I'd have to think about taking it. Am I glad I'm out? Do you have to ask? I relocated to Albuquerque, NM in Dec 03 and shortly after arriving I went to work for AOL. It was a good three years, but in Dec 06, our facility was closed and I was once again unemployed. Within 30 days, however, I was very happy to be hired by National American University in Albuquerque as an admissions rep. NAU has two campuses in the Albuquerque area and specializes in adult learners who started their degrees years ago and now need to get finished. It' was very rewarding work and there's a huge sense of satisfaction in seeing hard-working people complete their educations so that they can move on to the next level in their careers. During my time at NAU, one of my students encouraged me to apply for a position with Cardinal Health as a customer pricing analyst. I got the job, and have become fascinated with the healthcare products and logistics business. Cardinal Health is one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of healthcare supplies, equipment, pharmaceuticals, and logistical support. I'm happy I made the change. I've been with Cardinal for nearly three years. Military Went into the Air Force in Apr 76 and retired in May 96. Was assigned to the (former) Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver, CO from Aug 76 - Sep 82. From there we were stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ from Sep 82 - Oct 85. At both of these assignments I worked in Accounting and Finance. In Oct 85 we returned to Albuquerque and I worked as an Air Force recruiter until Oct 88, when we were assigned to Lubbock, TX to continue the recruiting mission. November 92 brought a new assignment to Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX and a return to the accounting business. This was our last assignment and I retired in May 96. I thoroughly enjoyed all 20 years of my service and would go back in a minute if the call came. The things I learned and the experiences I had were invaluable and I expect them to serve me well in my future careers.
