Mark's Story
Life
I've been married for almost 29 years (Jan. 24, 1976) to a woman from Missouri I met while working at the Q-C Times. Nancy Mouser is my miracle -- she is the only woman I've ever felt completely comfortable around. She is now director of member relations (what I title!) for Swiss Valley Farms.
We have two kids: Claire, 26, sings and acts with a couple of Chicago theater groups when she's not doing her day job with an insurance company. Adam, 24, is in his third year of studying in China and hopes to enter law school next year.
School
One of my favorite memories is spending 4th period in my junior year with Ginalie Bein and Perry Kalen in the Publications Office. Another is a dance my senior year in which I got up enough nerve to ask Phyllis Vogt and Barb Schellebarger to dance with me. (not at the same time) :)
In hindsight I wish I had asked Phyllis whether she wanted to go to a movie or some such. I was such a dork.

enings (sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning) with two intelligent, delightful women -- Shirley Schweiters and Ginny Mulvihill. Get those dirty thoughts out of your mind. We were working on The Crest. Shirley, the editor, was a senior from Davenport, and Ginny, the news editor, was a junior from Marshalltown. I was the opinion editor/layout supervisor. Don't snicker. That's the title I had because I could design interesting pages.
I also had fun my sophomore year hanging out with Jim Sparbel, Mark Sweet, Eleanor Poland (who is now Mrs. Sweet) and Lori Metzler, who was Ellie's roomate.
I fell in love with Lori, but I was such a dork then.
Workplace
I've been designing pages for what -- 33 years now -- at the Quad-City Times. I've been in news, sports, features, opinion -- you name it. I was even a fill-in sports editor for about five months and was news editor until I found out I'm a terrible manager. I've written some things for the paper, and would love to write a book.
