Mark's Story

To all who happen to stumble on my profile .... I design, build, manage and troubleshoot Networking Systems for AT&T. I've had a myriad of jobs - all with the same company - for 34 years and counting at this point. As some of you know, I graduated mid-term '78 on a Thursday; and started working for then Pacific Telephone (in Linda Mar location) the following Monday. Been there ever since ... I moved up to management 24 years ago after they paid for my education. I have a BSEET in Electronics Engineering from Cogswell College. After 10 more years (after high school graduation) living in Pacifica, I moved to Clayton to avoid the 3 hour commute to the East Bay. Unfortunately, you have to move there for better job selections. Another 9 years in Clayton, I got a chance to be moved by the company to Fairfield where we have a Data Center - a small unincorporated area called Green Valley - and I've been here ever since. If you know where the Jelly Belly factory, or the Anheuser-Busch bottling plant is, you know the area I live in. I used to travel a lot with this job - hitching a plane and staying in nice hotels. Now, technology has progressed to the point where I can do most of my work from home - or more to the point, from a remote location.. I'm not proud of the fact I've been married a couple times now. All I can say is, you do stupid things when you're 22. I do have a beautiful daughter from my first: Alana Marie. Got some photos of her here and she DOES do Facebook. I also helped raise my sister's daughter: Tonia also a Facebooker under Kennedy (if interested). She's in the pics as well. I'm currently married to a beautiful lady of whom I met while working in Concord (Clayton is nearby): Patricia Arnella Teresa Marie Ursulita - now Gilchrist aka PATMUG (Face-booker too). I have included some pics but, don't expect much ... she doesn't like her picture taken so, this is the best I've got. She has more on her FB profile. We have 2 homes that are almost paid for; 5 cars; and plenty of adult toys. Outside of my divorce, I've certainly been blessed in my time past Oceana. I...Expand for more
do miss Pacifica, and would move back there in a heartbeat if I could get a nice location. In the meantime, Green Valley's hills and quick access to freeways make for hobbies like rebuilding cars, road-trips,woodworking, and gardening use up most, if not all of my free time. Really, too many things to list. Also, I'm pretty active in my church, as I am the IT staff - taking care of the church's LAN environment. To all those who don't know their creator: Better get a clue - our time could be up any day now. We've all had about half a century here to pick a side. I finally figured it out myself when I got through Cancer in 1995 - Hodgkin's Disease to be exact. Although I know now that I've always been looked after - especially after the really stupid stuff I got myself into without any real damage done - Jesus is Lord of my Life now!! Ask me how I am sure ... My prize possession (aside from my family of course) - my '69 Vette - is almost totally restored. At this point, all it needs is a good paint job. Alas, car paint is pretty expensive. I will get there soon enough but, in the meantime there are other priorities. I'm pretty much a do-it-yourself guy - not too many things I can't do - but, car painting hasn't been one of my strong-points. Body-work: Yes ... Painting - not so much. Update: in July 2011, I had a Vintage Air Conditioning System installed. Unfortunately, the shop wrecked my car in the process - don't ask - pretty painful. However, the good news is they had to paint most of it, along with the body work needed. I just chipped in a few more $; and now have a new/old 1969 Corvette! I'll add to my photos when I get a chance. Let me know if you have any other questions for me. I wasn't sure what kind of following was on classmates.com but, since I'm not really a social networking kind of guy (more like an Network Operating Systems guy) - I don't have a Facebook profile - I figured I'd give ClassMates a shot to find some lost friends at this site. Here goes ... now it's your turn - email me if you want to know more. I can be found at --> Opeldude AT Live.com
