Mark's Story

Life The Haynes Family are missionaries to the largest Indian Reservation in America, the Navajo Nation. Covering over 25,000 square miles, the Reservation is larger than the State of West Virginia. Mark Haynes was saved at age nine through the ministry of Dr. Howard Sears at Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, Ohio. After high school, Mark attended and graduated from Bible College in 1979. During college, Mark met and married Tricia Bearfield. He served as an assistant pastor in four Texas churches. In 1988, Mark made his first trip to the Navajo Nation and visited with long time Navajo pastor Harold Noble. After several more trips during the next few years, the Lord began to burden his heart for the Navajo people. In June of 1994, Mark made his final surrender to the Lord to give his life to be a missionary to the Navajo people. The Haynes family moved to Steamboat Canyon, Arizona, in August of 1996. Tricia Bearfield grew up at Bowie Street Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas. She was saved at age seven. At an early age, she began playing the piano and organ for church services. At Bible College, she met Mark and they were married on June 7, 1977. Her part in the ministry is vital as she works with the Navajo ladies and teaches music to the children. The most important roll of Tricia's life is that of wife and mother. She home schools the Haynes children. Matt (30) is living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he is youth pastor and music director at Maranatha Baptist Church of Western Oaks. He believes that God has called him to work with the Kurds, an Islamic group. He specifically hopes to work in the country of Syria. Matt is also a second-degree black belt and a certified martial arts instructor. On September 11, 2010, Matt married Apryl Collins. She is a sweetheart and we are so glad to have her in our family! Michaela (29) graduated from Oklahoma Baptist College. She also studied missions. Michaela married Nicolas Dunn on May 22, 2004. She and her husband live in China. Michaela and Nick had their first child, Jerusha Abigail, on October 14, 2005. Their second child, Jeshurun Micaiah, was born on October 26th, 2006. They have a third child, born in Beijing, and his name is Abishai Elisha. The family is now living in Beijing, China, and are studying the Chinese language. Caleb (25) is a police officer in Haltom City, Texas, near Fort Worth. He has the most arrests for his shift and especially enjoys busting drug dealers. He enjoys music, especially Celtic. Caleb has worked diligently to develop a close walk with the Lord. Caleb married the lovely Sarah Garner on December 21, 2007, at Trinity Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, our home church. try there. Joel (22) graduated a year early from high school in May of 2005. He is a black belt in karate and is also a certified instructor. On May 23, 2009, Joel married a wonderful young lady named Fabiola Bernisse Santos. She is originally from Mexico and is a real joy to us. I am three for three in great daughters-in-law! Joel and Fabi moved to the Reservation to help us in our work. They are ow raising their financial support to permanently work with us on the Reservation. On June 26, 2010, they gave us our fourth grandchild, Joel Nathan Haynes, Jr. Esther (20) worked with special education kids at the Ganado Intermediate School. She also is a black belt instructor. She also enjoys Celtic music and likes to cook. She plays the flute. She has also studied sign language and hopes to use it as a ministry. Esther is now attending Trinity Baptist Bible College in Arlington, Texas, this fall. Her double major is in Secretarial Science and Education Tirzah (19) is a Certified Nursing Assistant and a college freshman. She is taking courses from Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona. She is our "talker" and has never met a stranger! Tirzah teaches a Sunday School class of Navajo children. Tirzah also enjoys singing and is learning to play the banjo. She is studying toward a nursing degree and then plans to go to Bible College to prepare for life as a missionary. She plans on going to China someday to work with children. Keturah (14) is a high school freshman. She loves crafts and playing with her parakeet, Einstein and her two cats and Bob the Dog. She is growing up way too fast for her dad! Keturah helps with our church record keeping and does a lot of secretarial work for me. She plans to go to Bible College upon graduation from high school. Our primary work is church planting and training Navajo believers. Our first church, Mountain View Baptist of Lukachukai, was organized into an independent church in October of 2003. In May of 2006, we moved into the community of Ganado and I am now pastoring Ganado Baptist Church. It is exciting! The church is growing and God is blessing! My dad and mom have passed on. Mom died in 1986 and Dad went to Heaven in May of 2005. My brother, Scott, is married to Angie and they have a beautiful son, Carson, and a lovely daughter, Kayla. Scott is an attorney in the Columbus area. My sisters are doing well. Jennifer lives in Portsmouth, Ohio, with her good husband Kenny. Dianne bought a house in Middletown and still works at Garden Manor. We recently got to make a three week trip to China. It was absolutely amazing. I will try and get some photos posted soon. I am blessed with a great life and family. Truly the Lord is good! Drop us a line sometime!
