Mark's Story

I was the relatively tall kid with the strange accent who arrived at the start of '77 from New Zealand and returned to New Zealand in January 1978. ] Tried out for the football team and was going okay till I sacked the star running back in practice scrimmage ... what can I say rugby if the guy with the ball is going past you you tackle him! I did ... Mr Allen wasn't pleased and let me know in no uncertain terms! I threw my dummy in the dirt and that was the end of my football career! When I returned my books at the Christmas break he asked me why I had quit football as I had the makings of a good tight end! Lol why didn't he tell me at the time of the incident! I had one return trip to Yakima in 1987 till early 88. Heading back to Yakima with our eldest son in early very August 2015 to get his US Citizenship sorted out ... yes I had a different accent but have always carried the dark blue passport with the Bald Eagle on the front of it! er and sister still living locally up that way - both I think went like many of you to Davis High. I remember two teachers a Mr Rose as a phys ed Teacher and a Mr Allen the football coach? and taught Geography and possibly aeronautics? there was also a relatively cool art teacher ... I remember someone in the class getting busted with a bag of weed in his class. Still think of the Purple and White when watching our two boys grow up and go through the schooling system here. I trained as a Journalist ... went into Corporate Communications and Marketing before moving on to running tourist accommodation in the Bay of Islands in New Zealand where we are now. I recognize the names of a few of you but all these years later struggle to remember the faces. No doubt like mine they have aged with experiences! Does anyone know what became of Kenny Schutt? sp ? In and around Yakima area 31 July to 4 August ... perhaps catch up and try and put a few fractured memories into order? Take care all of you! M
