Mark's Story

Life A lot has happened to me since I saw you all. I still remember the night of our graduation and the following reception at Fred Pruter's house. Shortly after graduation I found Christ. After all the years of religious upbringing... by God's mercy, I finally found out that Christ was not a religion, but a wonderful person. As undeserving as I am, I discovered more and more just how rich and real He is and just how available and applicable He is. To know Him is to love Him. While I am still growing closer to the Lord, He has had to rescue me from many of my silly and foolish choices. I must say that through it all, He is a kind and merciful God. I changed careers in the early 80's. The decision was forced upon me due to dropping oil prices and the mass lay- offs in the petro-chem industry. So I went back to college at the U.of H. fe,Julie, in some Christians meetings near the campus. We finally got married in May of '86. Then I got accepted into the College of Optometry in June of '87. Our first child was born on the first day of the Spring break of my first year in Optometry school. After many trials and many rich experiences of Christ, I finally graduated in 1991. I took my first job in Dallas working as an Optometrist at a Lenscrafter. But the weather was too cold for my wife. (She's from Brazil)So I looked for opportunities further south and I found one at TSO in Beaumont, Texas. But after about 4 years of working as an associate doctor, I felt that I really wanted to have my own practice, so I leased an office next to a brand new Lenscrafters that was opening up at Parkdale Mall here in Beaumont. If any of you are ever in town, please stop by my office around noon and introduce yourself and I'll take you to lunch.
