After leaving high school, I joined the Army (didn't everyone know that I would?). My job in the Army was Air Traffic Control. My first assignment after ATC school was at Ft. Rucker in lower Alabama as an instructor (go figure). I applied for flight school and was accepted, but I quit during the initial phase. At that time they were asking a bit much from me and I didn't feel like giving it. In July 1983 I wed Earlene Hibbs (another soldier) and we are still married. We moved to Korea in July 1983 where I worked in a small control tower and stayed there until December 1985 when we were re-assigned back at Ft. Ruc...Expand for more
ker. I worked as an instructor again until December 1989. We then moved to Germany and stayed there for 3 years. Yes, I got caught up in all that nasty desert business, but I got to work in a control tower and an approach control. When our time was up in Germany we came back to Ft. Rucker (again). I worked in a tower this time for 3 years and then moved back to Korea. I worked in the Army's busiest airport in the Pacific that time. That particular move was only for one year. Guess where I moved to. Ft. Rucker!!! Lower Alabama had become home. I am now retired from the Army, living in north Alabama, and am working for Computer Sciences Corporation as a contractor to the Army. I provide logistical support to Army ATC systems.
