Mark's Story
Hello my fellow 80s contemporaries.
My life - long story, short version, since school daze:
Moved to Madison, WI after graduation because my then girlfriend and I were expecting a baby, and her family was there - and our expectations were right; we had a beautiful baby girl. I went to a JUCo there, but my then girlfriend and I split up amicably after 3+ years, and I had to return to Kankakee in '92. I then moved on to DeKalb and enrolled at NIU. Finished with B.A. degree in History, but declined to teach. Worked some unpleasant monkey-hustle jobs, then enlisted in the Army in '98. Was sent to Army's language school in CA, where I learned Arabic. I was then stationed in TX, AZ, and CO, before being "stop-lossed" in 2002 when I was supposed to be released, and shipped to Iraq for beginning of Iraq War. I was there from April - August of 2003. Then the Army let me out, pursuant to policies in place at the time.
Since then, I've returned to Kankakee area. I love the rivers and cornfields...Expand for more
, tho I work downtown in Chicago- a world class city. I work for the state of IL enforcing anti-disrimination laws relating to employment and housing. Kankakee area, to me, is infinitely more beautiful than the other places I've lived - even WI, CA coast (Monterey), CO Springs, and the desert wastelands of Arizona and west TX. I hate deserts. Let's just put all of our nuclear waste there. My daughter is 19 now. As of 12/08, I am a dad again to another daughter -= girls rule. My twin brother Eric does the same thing I do for the state, except he works for the Federal Government. He is married and has a young daughter. My sister Susan is an executive with a software firm, and she and her husband have a young son. My Mom and Dad are happily retired. I am a baseball enthusiast and Cub fan. My favorite things to do are to spend time with my wife, step-son,daughters, and step dog (yellow lab krazy dawg) and to do fun things with them on weekends. I hope you are well, and I wish you the best.
