Mark's Story
I was the nerdy, long haired art editor and make up editor of the Emblem. I spent my free time in the Emblem room or in the stairwell with Sue, fooling around and smoking cigs. After graduation I got into all the 70's had to offer but worked hard while doing it. I became a carpenter, biker, bouncer and worked mainly in the Wallingford area before moving to East Haven where I bought my first house. I started riding motorcycles in 1973. Bought my first new Harley in 1977 and never looked back. It became and continues to be my passion. Left the northeast after a divorce in 1985 in the dead of winter and headed for California. I got my General Contractors license and worked for about 15 years in the Bay area on residential remodels. For fun I got involved in racing private sailboats in San Francisco Bay for 12 years, retired from contracting and moved up to the CA Gold country in Jackson, CA. orian Bed and Breakfast for 4 years, then sold it in 2004... YAHOO! Lot's of work folks! We then took an extended 4 month trip around the U.S on the Harley, and 22,000 miles later ended up buying an old building in Johnson City, TX and started up a retail shop. Hey ya gotta try something new once and awhile. The Black Spur Emporium has been doing great for 16 year now. Although I got bored in 2011 and added a Coffee Shop, learned a lot about java and now spend my days as the barista, making "the best espresso in town!" The businesses keep us busy with buying trips to Mexico 3-4 times a year and occasional trade shows. Our favorite is in Las Vegas in January after a very hectic holiday season. I ride the Harley at every opportunity and try to remain "grateful" no matter what life throws my way!
Life is good, God is good and we are truly blessed with good health and a wonderful life here in the Texas Hill County.
