Mark's Story

Hmmm, my story?? It has been a wild, wonderful, crazy, and, at times, painful road. I have done more things wrong than right but I have never surrendered. It is funny how life provides you with choices and opportunities but the end results are for you to shape. You might find it amazing that I graduated from college with a BS degree but I found myself academically in college and was lazy in high school. In the end, I did well enough to permit me to enroll in graduate school and also law school. I made decisions to not finish either but so glad that I took the chance to experience academia beyond undergraduate school. I guess that I would be considered successful in the role of the employment world. I was able to move to upper management in three solid companies. I was able to travel nationally and internationally for work on a continual basis. Currently, I have my own business with a partner and really have no desire to stop since it brings me much pleasure in being challenged mentally. I have continued with athletics since college ball. Success has come in many sports but the thing that has been most noteworthy is taking on the sport of handball. I have been able to become a United States National Champion in 3 Wall Handball and have won many regional, state, and local tournaments through out the United States. I still find athletics important to me and work hard to maintain the ability to participate. I have been blessed to have three children. They are all three in their own worlds with two of them married and having children of their own. The last one is in college currently. I live in Hilliard, OH currently and am now an empty nester. It seems to strange not having anyone in the house but myself but it is okay. Maybe someday I will have a person in my life that will join me to make it not so much a house as a home. The great thing about life to me is that the more things change, the more I have remained the same. I am still rebellious to a degree. I will always be an adventurer and a risk taker. The great thing though is that life has given me the opportunity to refine my views and broaden my perspective. I am still working on reaching the moon and have been about half way there, not bad for a long haired leaping gnome from no where. For those that wish to talk, then do not hesitate to do so because you will find me less timid than I used to be but you will always find me straight forward and upfront. 7/1/11 Thought that I would update a few things here in the past year. The business that I am in has been good even though the economy has really stunk. I have conducted a couple of seminars for the frozen treats industry and out of that have come quite a few business opportunities. Always a pleasant surprise. I spent Christmas and New Year's touring Ireland. It is a beautiful country and they actually had more snow in th...Expand for more
e northern part of the country than they had for 40 years. Dublin had snow on the ground which is very unusual for them. Of course, it was colder here when I left with more snow but they were freaking out there. Seems they do not have the snow equipment to keep their roads clear and traffic was light. LOL I rented a car out of Dublin and drove in a cirlce up to Belfast and then back to Dublin. Saw many a castle, drank some Guiness and toured the brewery (quite impressive), and drove on the wrong side of the highway from the right side of a vehicle with a stick shift. That was a challenge. I also went to Guatemala in March and was awestruck by the size of Guatemala City. It is far bigger than Chicago. I attended a dedication of a fire truck from a city in the us to Malatacan in southern Guatemala. I could not believe that this city has 100,000 people in it with 20 volunteer firemen. This firemen have to walk around the city asking for donations so they have operating capital to run the firehouse!!!!!!!! The city does not provide them any funds other than a building. Amazing. Played in a big 3 wall outdoor handball tournament a couple of weeks ago and lost in the finals. Was happy with that result even though winning would have been better but we have had such lousy weather, I have not been able to play all that much outdoors or have trained all that well as I should. 02/134/12 Took a vacation to Abu Dhabi and Dubai during the mid december time. These two places are amazing cities and they have done some unbelievable construction from the oil money that we donate to their economy. It is amazing to see the hyprocosy of this country. It is muslim with bhurkas and what not but at night in the American hotel bars, there are muslims drinking, smoking, dancing, and interacting with the infidels. Prostitution was ready visible and hard to believe it was so out in the open. I took a 14 day northern India trip sandwiched in my time in the UAE. I landed in Delhi and spent the rest of the time with a driver/guide touring northern India either by train, plane, or automobile. It is startling to be in a city of 32 million people. It is also incredible to see cows, dogs, monkeys, and rats looking fully fed while people were starving in the streets. Saw the Taj Mahal and the Great Thar desert from a camel. Had the great experience of going into a temple that worshiped the Rat. Imagine going into a palace that you have to take your shoes off and be surrounded by more than 40,000 rats running amok all around you. I could not believe watching people hand feed the rats and then eat what was left in their hands for good luck. Oh well, I was not in Kansas anymore. I am getting ready for the State of Ohio 4 wall handball tournament next month. Have been playing well and expect to make it to the finals but you just never know in this old age anymore.
