Mark's Story
After I left Maconaquah I finished school in LaGrange Indiana at Lakeland High School. I went to Ball State University and after graduation and marriage to my wife Michelle, we met at BSU, I worked for the Indiana State Park System for 15 years as a park superintendent. We ended up in Chesterton, Indiana where we raised our 3 boys. While in Chesterton I left state parks, ran a YMCA and ended up in administration with the Duneland School Corp..
I retired in 2012 from the school district and Michelle and I moved West and have lived in Durango, Colorado since July of 2012. I took a job with La Plata County government as General Services Director. We moved to follow all of our kids West. Our oldest son Chris is a landscape architect and lives in Phoenix with his wife Cathy and daughters, Audrey and Charlotte. Our middle son Patrick is a bank vice president and he...Expand for more
and his daughter Elsa live in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Our youngest son Nick is an engineer and he and his wife Amanda and their daughters Kira and Mia live in the Bay Area
Our family passion is the outdoors so our move to Colorado is really filling a need in our lives. Michelle and I enjoy hiking and visiting all the Four Corners have to offer. We downhill ski and snowshoe in the winter. Recently we completed the first course in the Colorado Avocational Archaeology program. Since we only live about 35 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park archaeology is a new interest. I hunt and fish whenever I can and took my first trophy bull elk with my muzzle loader in Sept. of 2013 while hunting with my son Patrick.
We're loving growing older gracefully and really enjoying our growing granddaughters. Michelle retired in May of 18 and I'm going to in January if 2019.
