Mark's Story
Life
Just moved to the Vail valley in July 2006 from Laramie, Wyoming. Life is pretty good right now. I'm a typical weekend warrior though, working during the week and snowboarding or mountain biking on the weekends. I occasionally take long lunches to take a few runs at Beaver Creek, which is nice to break up the day a little.
I just took an Avalanche Level 1 safety course, so I'll still be around for any reunions after hitting up the freshies in the backcountry.
So I pretty much just work, mountain bike in the summer, snowboard in the winter, and travel whenever I can. I still have yet to travel to Europe and any of those places across the pond, but my day will come.
I am a semi-pro downhill mountain bike racer. My goal is to turn pro at the middle to end of the 2007 season. I mainly race in the Mountain States Cup series here in CO....Expand for more
But have been to a few National races over the years. However, the National races haven't been to kind to me thus far. I did break an arm in September 2006 in Keystone, CO in a warm up run. So I'm actually still rehabing from that 5 months later. Good thing it happened at the end of the season though!
There's just a lot going on, but I'm tired of typing.
Workplace
Well, I finally bucked up and am "putting that degree to use". I'm currently a design engineer for a structural engineering consulting firm in Avon, Colorado. I've been here since July 2006 and so far it's treating me well and has its challenges. We mainly design the structural systems for custom homes in the Aspen, Steamboat, and Vail areas (the big houses that everyone, with a few exceptions, dreams they had). We also do schools, condos, and misc. commercial stuff too.
