Life
Ok, so I graduated under a different name. Moncrief was not an alias, just never legally my name. Anyway I walked stage as DeMarino and 1/2 of you probably thought, who is that? Married 26 years, 2 kids. 24 & 11. Yea, I know, but things happen. Was flying hanggliders for fun, but currently on holding pattern. Still rocking to the "Classics".
No longer working. Health issues have forced me into early retirement (disabled). 2009 has been a rough year. 24 years of Diabetes has started to take its toll. Transplant (kidney & pancreas)in 2002 got me off dialysis and insulin shots, but kidney gave up in 2006. Diaysis since 3/06.
Circulation issues from diabetes have now (since 2009) taken my left leg above knee, right has since followed, but below knee, 3 fingers on left and 1 on right hand as well as eyesite in left. I'm...Expand for more
a mess, but try to stay positive and in good spirit. Currently (2/10)waiting on last amputation to heal, so we can work on prosthesis. Have left and just started on it when right leg went. Now I need strength of right to operate left. Hopefully by mid summer I'll be on my feet. I know, probably too much info, but a word of advice to all from a Diabetes poster child.
1)Leading cause of kidney failure - been there, doing that.
2)Leading cause of blindness - doing that.
3) Circulation issues leading to amputation - been there, done that.
DO NOT JOIN ME
If you or someone you know has Diabetes, take it serious and take care of it quickly. Don't lollygag around like I did for 10 years. It does damage you aren't even aware of until 30 years later.
