Mark's Story
Life
Divorced, but believing in God for marriage restoration. I was a hearing officer for the driver safety branch of the DMV, and a former paralegal and intelligence analyst in Army Reserve. My son is an Army veteran and is a junior political science major at the University of Illinois. My daughter is a sophomore accounting major at the University of Alabama and a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. I have been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome and I am still slightly paralyzed.
College
I was a vagabond and a travelling man. Went to school here and there, taking 13 years to get my AA and another 10 to get my BA. Worked full time except one year when I was recovering from a serious accident, I took 66 semester hours and made the honor role. Finally got my degree in Liberal Arts (would you like to supersize your order?) from a college I've never seen or been to (distance learning is so fun!) Almost got my MA; a few classes short and a very hectic job and a preschooler worked against me.
Workplace
After 11 years on active duty with the Army, I went to junior college and started a wonderful career of "doing what it takes to pay...Expand for more
the bills". I have Conservation Corp, a DMV registration and license technichian, a drive test examinaner (only 3 accidents!) and a hearing officer with the Driver Safety branch of the DMV. I worked with a law firm in Woodland Hills specializing in DMV hearings and DUIs. I still consult with California attorneys on these issues. I am semi retired and working as a teacher's aide and substitute teacher at a middle school.
Military
Served 11 years in the Army and another 16 in the reserves. Bounced around alot. Was a cavalry scout, tank gunner, legal clerk, recruiter, medic, tactical electronic warfare intercept geek, inteligence analyst, platoon sergeant, first sergeant, and a chief legal NCO. Served in Germany, Alaska, Fort Benning, Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, and in San Diego; also had TDY in Korea, Fort Hunter-Ligget, Fort Knox, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Fort Sam Houston, and Fort Devins. Missed the first Gulf War as my unit did Korean Intelligence and those that know, know. Fell out of a helicopter in Alaska and also got frostbite. Other than that I survived. Miss it. Retired from the reserves in 2001 and get a nice retirement check.
