Mark's Story

I have had a busy life, I grew up in La Canada Ca. spent one brief year at St John Bosco High School, then moved to Hollywood with my dad where I went to Hollywood High. My dad was a Film Editor and worked on many movies and TV shows. His last TV show was bewitched. I worked at Magic Mt from 1972 to 1974 In 1975 I went to work with the USFS on the Texas Canyon Hotshots on the Angeles NF After a partial season there; I was offered a position in Yosemite National Park starting as a structure firefighter with Yosemite Park and Curry Co, and as a seasonal wildland firefighter with the NPS. In 1976, I transferred to the NPS as a Ranger, working in the Law Enforcement Office. In 1978 I was promoted back into fire as a Fire Capt with Yosemite Park and Curry Co. In 1985 I transferred to Vandenberg AFB in California, as a Fire Engine Operator, and was promoted to Fire Captain in 1986. During this time Mark was involved in many aspects of fire including wildland, structure, hazmat and spacecraft. I was the Capt on the rescue unit responsible for rescuing Astronauts on the Space Shuttle during take off and landing. revention Officer. In between all this I have been married twice; ands have tow daughters ages 25 and 27, who both live in Boise Idaho. Both Daughters have been firefighters with the BLM and the USFS. In 1990, I transferred to the Bakersfield District as Battalion Chief for Fire Operations in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Cos., where he started 2 new fire stations, then moving to Carson City Nevada for the Bakersfield District, running several fire stations on the Eastern Sierras. In 2000, I transferred to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, as the Fire and Aviation Management Officer at the South Texas Refuge Complex in Deep South Texas. In 2005, Mark transferred to the National Park Service Fire Management Program Center NIFC as the Operations Coordinator for the National Interagency Prescribed Fire Center in Tallahassee, Florida. And was the Acting Director for the National Interagency Prescribed Fire Center for two years. As of February 2008, I be came the National Park Service Southeast Region Emergency Services Coordinator in Atlanta, Ga. I am responsible for all hazard management with in the NPS units in Southeast and the Caribbean. Currently I am the IC on the National Southern Area Red Type One Incident Management Team.
