In case anyone remembers...
I used to do the morning PA announcements during our senior year. Mrs. Piper the speech teacher told me I had a great voice, and should get into radio. I tried radio in college, and hated it!!!! So then, I tried working in TV at BGSU. It was one of the most fun things I thought I could do with my life. As it turned out, my suspiscion was absolutely correct. I worked in the Cleveland area between 1990 and the present in various jobs in TV. In 1998, I got a part-time news videographer job at WKYC. In 2000, I was promoted to full-time news videographer. I truly have one of the best jobs in the world. I have a front seat...Expand for more
to history being made every day! There are some people in the "public eye" that I have known through the years that I have had a good working relationship with. I shot Lebron James' high school basketball games when he was a skinny kid. Former Mayor Michael White always talked to me and whatever reporter I was working with because I would ask him about his family before I would even roll one frame of tape. Events sometimes control my schedule instead of the other way around. When an armed gunman was running around the Peter B. Lewis building, my camerawork would up on WKYC, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, and CNN.
Being in the living rooms of the grieving families or grieving dads or moms is very tough, but, ironically I always think of what I learned from one of my teachers at WHS,
Ray Minsterman. Don't sweat the small stuff...it's ALL small stuff, just do a good job.
Hard work pays off... In Sept. of 2005, two of the stories I shot for Channel 3 news won local Emmy Awards.
