Mark's Story
After Graduation, I headed to Florida...It was great to see another part of the country...I got to see quite a few people at our 5 and 10 yr reunions...I'm hoping to see some more familiar faces if we have a 20th...I spent 17 fun-filled years in Florida...It was definitely a learning experience...Actually, it was where I discovered MYSELF...After a year and half of drinking, partying, and suicidal thoughts, I finally came to terms with my inner-self and came FLYING OUT OF THE CLOSET!!!....Yes, I know most of you knew before I did, but it was the hardest obstacle I had to hurdle...I spent many years, and still do, counseling the younger gay generations...It was like a huge burden had been lifted off of me...I got a lot of respect from people for being honest and I have done my best to break the stereo-types...I spent many years alone (by choice--I didnt' want to answer to anyone...lol!!!)...I finally settled down a little in 96 and was in a LTR for almost 5 years...Once again, i am single and let me tell ya...It's hard to date now that I've moved back to Morgan County, but dating is not what I'm here for...lol
I've spent all of my working career serving the public in one way or another....I was a server for many years...Then I went to cosmetology school and was a stylist for a few years in a chain salon in Florida...I went into management, but gave up the job in 99 when my Grandmother was ill and I came back to stay with her for a few months...I returned to Florida in 2000 and started working for Red Lobster...I spent many years serving again and playing bartender....After I returned to Ohio in 2005, I went into management again...What a mistake...lol...I was in Zanesville for a few months, spent 15 months in Heath and was then transferred to Lancaster...The drives were killin' me...90 min 1 way then 10-12 hrs a day, took it's toll on me...It wasn't what I came back to Ohio to...Expand for more
do...Actually, in 2005 I almost lost my Mother to a perforated bowel...That's the reason for my return....Then in Jan of 2008, my Grandmother had a massive stroke and almost passed away...It was time to leave the Lobster...
Since the stroke, I have taken an STNA course, so as to be able to help Agnes, my Grandmother...She is paralyzed on her left side, but by some miracle, she got to keep her speech and memories...Praise God!!!...She is doing intense rehab and we are taking it day by day...
Excluding the family illnesses, it has been wonderful being back in Ohio...I really missed the changes in seasons and even winters....My first winter home, it was hard to get me out of the house, but I have overcome the cold...I still have flashbacks when I drive around...I see things that probably haven't been there in 15 yrs...And whats with the music???...I've heard more 80's now than I did in the 80's...lol....Jokes aside though, the songs do bring back some memories....
I flash back to dances I attended or decorated...lol...Football games and sock hops and all the years in choir, quiz team, and the plays and musicals...Only recently have I really longed for the high school days...When they demolished our old alma mater, that was the last of my schools...They have all disappeared, but I still have the memories...
It was so great to see some familiar faces at the 20th reunion...Thanx to LeAnne(Bader), Kim(Mautz), and Tina(Toth), we had a fantastic evening getting reacquainted and relivin' so old times...BTW...I never did find my cheesy camera, so if anyone can hit me up with some pics, it would be muchly appreciated...lol
I hope everyone has had wonderful years...I never became a rocket scientist or independently wealthy, but I did grow into a very compassionate and caring individual and I have no regrets...All my mistakes have made me the man I am today and I do hold my head high.
