One of Mark's favorite quotes is:"Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars... and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful. Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance. Look at the flowers - for no reason. It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are. ~Osho I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.... People think pleasing God is all God care about. But any fool living in the world can see it always trying to please us back. ~Alice Walker, The Color Purple, 1982 The poetry of the earth is never dead. ~John Keats I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees. The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets. It has given me blessed release from care and worry and the troubled thinking of our modern day. It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful. Whenever the pressure of our complex city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I seek relief in the trail; and when I hear the coyote wailing to the yellow dawn, my cares fall from me - I am happy. ~Hamlin Garland, McClure's, February 1899 You can't be suspicious of a tree, or accuse a bird or a squirrel of subversion or challenge the ideology of a violet. ~Hal Borland, Sundial of the Seasons, 1964". More about Mark:"When "narrow minded" people step out of their "narrow minded" selves, they find a "whole new way of seeing the world" My years in HS were not pleasant for me as most of you know. My life started when I graduated and left home. My home life and HS did not p...Expand for more
ermit me to be who I was or who I wanted to be with. After leaving HS I was never going to hide who I was again for the sake of "family or friends" and I never did again. I started working in the nursing field and soon learned that I didn't like it. I got too attached to the people that I worked with on a day to day basis. When my "patients" passed away of old age, it just about killed me. There were friends that accepted me for who I was and they were gone. Many of you know that I married and lived a "traditional" life for about 10 years. What you didn't know is that I was "out" to my wife when we got married and after the years that we were together decided that we both wanted to move on with our lives. We did get divorced in 1994. After I divorced I met a man named Victor. He was a recovering alcoholic and was sober for about 7 1/2 years. When he started drinking again, I knew that it was over for he and I. I work closely with "addictions" all day at work, I was not going to deal with it at home. I broke up with him in 2002. We were together for 8 years. I am now with my "life partner" Greg and it is going on 6 years. After graduating HS, I worked in the high end of advertising in a field call typesetting for 6 years. (now outdated) I then moved on into the vocation of office management for an energy conservation service of Puget Sound Power and Light here in Madison for 2 years until President Reagan cut the "conservation" funding. From there I started back into the health field. I thought I would try something different, so I went into mental health. I have worked at the Mental Health Center of Dane County ever since 1991 as a Program Assistant. I have also been very politically active in the community. When I was younger, I started my political activism against the "Christian Right" at 18 years old fighting against social injustices in the state of Wisconsin. Growing up in a very "Christian Right" family, I understood this mentality all too well. I started standing up politically because I didn't want what happened to me when I was younger happen to anyone else. Gay men and women should never live a life of "guilt and pain" for being who they are by family, friends and co-workers. I wanted to let them know that they are not alone. I am still very political and consider myself very far left in my views.".
