Mark's Story
After graduation from Lanier, I enrolled in Jackson State University. I attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa after I completed my BS and MS degrees at JSU. I joined the faculty in the Department of Biology in 1987 after receiving my PhD from U of A and a year of postdoctoral experience at Alabama A&M University. With the exception of graduate school, I lived in Jackson all my life. It wasn't until 2008 that I moved to Madison, MS. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to visit a number of countries in the world as a result of my vocation. Having been a faculty member at JSU since the late 80s, I've also had the good fortune of serving in several administrative positions. ty that I've visited countries across the globe including China, South Africa, India, France, Spain, and London. As you might imagine, I've had a very rewarding career and I'm very thankful that I've had the opportunity to help countless numbers of students during my tenure at JSU.
Life has presented me with its ups and downs as I'm certain it has for all of us. But through it all, I've been highly favored and richly blessed. Although I lost my first wife of 18 years to breast cancer several years ago, I've remarried a wonderful woman (Vivian) and I have a daughter, two sons, a step daughter, and two grandsons. And while I don't know exactly what's ahead, I'm hopeful I'll have the opportunity to continue to make a positive difference in the lives of the people I interact with everyday.
