Mark's Story
Living in Denver now working on a masters degree - no work for architects - solution go back to school - I moved from Florida to here (Denver) in July of this year - I was in Florida for ten years - professionally, I had my own practice first in Naples then in Fort Myers for a total of six years (absolutely crazy times)- after 19 years of being an architect - well- I'm burnt-out - too many hours - so - I'm back in school - and it's strange.
I have had no contact with any of my OHS classmates other that a visit with my friend Joe Smith back in 2001 (not sure when - damn). He looked about the same, but taller more fit - very cordial - somehow we were world apart though - not talk past small talk - I remember my sister Teresa was with me and we went on to visit Jeff Smith, one of Teresa's close friends - no one knows or maybe does - she had a serious crush on Jeff, but the girl was too shy - and to think for some time we lived just down the road. Hmmm. I won't say who I had a crush on. Odd, talkin' this "stuff". Why not? Unlikely we (you my once upon a time class mates and I) will never meet. I wonder though how many of you that had nothing in common with me back then, in fact no interest in my existence (not necessarily in a bad way)- well - would find me interesting and perhaps shared interest.
Enough for now, need some sleep - I have two research papers due in four days. - that's my life now.
Oh - all that architect talk above - all the hours and crazy times - well needless to say 60 to 80 hours a week ...Expand for more
for years on end destroys a marriage. Been by myself for over eight years - awesome(hyperbole)- alone - it works for me (has to - it is what it is) - my two boys are with me though - living my life now in Denver.
I could write on - if your interested - the degree I'm pursuing is a masters in arts & culture with a concentration on "creative" writing.
I've been writing for years - ask Joe Smith - sent him a cryptic poem about passing years and vanishing friends - don't think it was well received - I could be wrong - but he was an engineer and I an architect - different kind of schooling the architects get - we get our brains pulled out - and we have to put mess back in our skulls - takes years.
Enough about the architect thing - crime - what else can I talk about - my yellow lab - what a pain - my boys - incredibly kind and creatively minded young men - Michael (19) in college studying music, he's the singer song writer - he wails on the guitar - has formed three band - and is looking to form another here in Denver - ask him to play a rock classic solo - it blows my mind - and James (17) finished school a year early and is devoting his time to concept art and story lines for novels that become video games - he is a walking encyclopedia. My boys are awesome - we hang out all the time - its kind of like one big creative studio - oh yeah I make paintings too - mostly abstractions of someones reality - maybe mine.
I will continue this another day - maybe I will look at my story from a different angle next time.
