Mark's Story

I graduated from University High School in 1963 and from Illinois State University in 1967. I married Pam Tebrugge (now Carvey) in September of 1966. Moved to Durham, North Carolina with Pam in September of 1967 to attend Duke Law School and was awarded a JD in June of 1970. Pam and I were divorced in May of 1970. My first job after law school was with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund where I investigated "in-school" segregation in Arkansas, concerning desegregation orders issued by the Federal Courts there. I passed the Missouri Bar in October of 1970 and worked for the law firm that is now Lathrop Gage, in Kansas City, Missouri for two years. In late 1972, I joined the Kansas City Legal Aid and Defender Society which became the Public Defender's Office for Jackson County Missouri. In 1976, I became the Public Defender for Platte County, Missouri and went into private practice as a criminal defense attorney. I was married to Ramona Cook, a UHigh class of 1963 graduate in 1976 but we divorced in 1977. I became a member of the Florida Bar in December of 1976, and in June of 1982, I moved to Florida where I worked as an organized crime prosecutor out of the Governor's Office. I was lead prosecutor in the prosecution of Jose Antonio "Pepe: Cabrera, the first Colomibian drug lord extradited to the United States and conducted two trial in 1986, concerning Mr. Cabrera, which resulted in his conviction. bar in Rome, Italy. In 1990, I joined the Federal "Miami Organized Crime Strike Force" and worked as an Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting organized crime and white-collar crime cases. I retired from the government in 1995, and currently am in private practice in Jupiter, Florida, where I live. I married Margaret Condon Johnson in 1987 and we raised three boys. Mike is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, a Captain in the United States Army and a Ranger. He received a Silver Star and an Army Service Medal With Valor, as a Lieutenant and platoon commander in Konar Province in Afghanistan. He is currently an instructor at the Army Ranger School at Eglin Air Force Base in North Florida. Tom, is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and works as a stunt man in movies and television, primarily in Georgia and North Carolina. He has worked in a variety of projects including, The Walking Dead and The Originals. Taylor, is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is employed at the National Launch Alliance, a joint venture between Boeing and Martin-Marietta that makes "launch vehicles" for satellites. He live in Huntsville, Alabama. I have a son from a previous marriage, Sterling Johnson, age 40, who lives in Shawnee Mission, Kansas and is a regional sales manager for DEX 1, an advertising company My wife Margaret and I live in Jupiter, Florida. I am an avid cyclist and golfer and rabid fan of Duke basketball, the Miami Dolphins and Miami Marlins.
