Mark's Story

The short version is that I haven't been bored. I graduated from Loyola of Chicago in 1996 with a degree in Political Science and a second major in Philosophy. Overwhelmed by the number of employers seeking to throw money at people who can think deep thoughts about politics, and bored with school, I joined the Marines. After four years of that, I got out for a year only to be called back in for the start of the latest Iraq adventure. I was lucky enough to spend a few months in California before being sent home. found a new newspaper in the same town. I did, and it went very well until our owner encountered financial problems and closed up shop. At the same time, I had been working part-time as a firefighter and EMT. I decided to pursue that full-time, and enrolled in Paramedic school, which is what I do now when I am not at work. I also met, fell in love with, and married a beautiful and intelligent woman. We're coming up on our first anniversary next month. Of course, there's more to the story, but that is the quick version. The long version is more detailed and less interesting. An update: In January, I became a father. I won't bore you with a long post about how wonderful our daughter is, but rest assured-she's wonderful.
