Mark's Story
After Graduation, I went to work for a Small Print Shop "Your Own Floral Printing" "Franklin Press" along with David James (Also class of 78)
In 1981, I wanted a break from Rochester so I joined the Army. Surprising to me I served for 20 years and retired honorably in 2001.
I fought very had to get to the DC area for my last assignment in the Army to prepare for retirement. I retired from the Army and settled here in Falls Church Virginia where I worked as a beltway bandit, for 16 years as a Program Manager for one of the larger Federal Contracting Companies, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). In 2016 following a corporate merger my position was unfunded. Following that position I moved from being a contractor to being an employee of the Federal Government with the Bureau of the Fiscal Service. I was originally hires as a Team Lead and just over two years later I applied for and received a promotion as the Director of Product and Development for the Do Not Pay portal. I love what I do and the job me and my team do to try protect and safeguard improper payments from occurring.
I get back to Rochester a few times a year to see my family (May - November) I do not miss all of the snow. We get on average 6 inches a year and that is a heavy winter. If any of you are here in the Washington Area look me up

ed a flight for Madrid Spain and a Train to St. Jean Pied de Port France. I hiked the full 500 Mile Camino de Santiago to help me understand what I want next in Life, While walking my 500 mile pilgrimage I learned a lot about me. I knew I was stubborn but this showed me my level of endurance and commitment. Once you start the day you are on a set path 10-20 miles that day with few options to alter your decision. My goal on day one was to be in Santiago to witness the giant Crosier being lit and swung in St. James Cathedral. I completed the journey in 30 days exactly. I was very blesses and able to witness the Crosier being swung.
One of the days I was hiking my song list played an old Mac Davis song; Stop and Smell The Roses. We all here throughout our careers to do just that. Working the extra hours, missing time with family and friends is noticed. Take a moment, search for the song, sit, close your eyes for a few moments and listen to it. The message is so simple and heartfelt.
I walked away from the Camino learning a great deal about Humility, both asking for and giving help. Now that I am back in Virginia I am volunteering two or three days a week at a local food bank in Washington DC and continuing to support the USO as I had been. I love retirement, my volunteer work and travel
