Marla's Story
It's been a full and interesting life for me, if a little bit non-traditional. I've been married to the same great guy for 30 years, we have four grown children and (so far) three grandchildren, working on a fourth!.
I went back to school when I was 35 and became a registered nurse, realizing a lifelong dream. I've worked in hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. We've lived in Albany, OR for over 20 years. We have about 2.75 acres of woodland and a big rambling old house that we love. Bill, my husband, just retired and is enjoying life as a 'gentleman of leisure'..
Our oldest daughter is 27 and is the mother of two adorable boys; our younger girl is 24 and a member of the US Army who just completed NCO school; our 21-year-old son also joined the Army last year and is currently serving in Iraq; and our 'baby' is 19 and a CNA at the same nursing home where I work. He plans to become a paramedic, then an ER/trauma nurse. He's also engaged to be married next July.
In my spare time, I moderate two Internet websites, grow flowers and vegetables, and write the occasional newspaper commentary. I'm also working on a book at this time. My sister, Marnie (Leach) Klassen, who lost her husband in 2007, now lives with my family and is also a member here at Classma...Expand for more
tes. She's been to several class reunions; I haven't been to a single one of ours......maybe I'll make our 40-year reunion in 2016 :-)
I am looking forward to hearing from some of you. As I've aged and members of my family have passed on, I've become more interested in the rich history of Ramona, and I've come to miss it, even though I don't see myself coming back there to live (too expensive!!) As you can tell from my photo, I'm no longer young and thin, but I still get a lot of enjoyment out of life, and being 50+ is FABULOUS!
Both of my parents and my maternal grandparents are buried at Nuevo Memory Gardens, they've been gone for many years now (Daddy, Bill Leach, died in 1985; and Mother, Marjorie, in 1989). I'm always amazed at people my age and older who still have parents!
I also imagine a lot of you are grandparents by now, and I can say that this is the most fun part of parenthood......my little guys are Elijah, 5, Bryan, almost 4, and Cale, 3 1/2. They give me an excuse to blow soap bubbles and go trick-or-treating again! :-D
Well, there's lots more, but nobody needs or wants to read through a volume on 34 years of someone else's life, LOL. Suffice it to say that God has been good to me, and I hope to 'talk' to some of you again......it's been a long, long time.
