Martha's Story

Life Would love to be in contact with former Spartans! I am a retired social worker. Worked for 25 years in child welfare as a caseworker, adoption worker, supervisor, and manager. After early retirement from state employment, I had part-time social service jobs with private agencies for a few years. For the last two years, I have worked part-time as a receptionist at a day spa. It is a lovely job with terrific benefits having nothing to do with my pay! People are glad to come in and even happier when they leave. I have become addicted to my weekly massages. That which has brought me the greatest joy in my life are my sons and grandchildren. I have twin boys (men). Matt (Millikin grad and SIU JD) is the States Attorney here in Marion County. He and his wife, Ann, (also a Millikin grad), a teacher, have 4 children, a daughter and 3 sons. They live 5 minutes from me and I thoroughly enjoy watching all their sporting events, dance recitals, scholoastic competitions, and their numerous activities. I help with babysitting sometimes, too, and transportaton. They are all busy, busy, busy and I love all my involvement with them. They really are such fun! My son, Brian, is a Cornell (M Eng) grad, an operations research engineer, and is also married to a Millikin grad, Dichele (Loyola MBA). They and their 2 sons live near Chicago in Naperville. ive from me and are also very busy, so I do not see them as often as I would like. I adore these grandsons, too, of course, and greatly enjoy our times together. When I visit them, Brian and Dichele often take me to some very interesting restaurants with very unique and delicious foods (Alinea, Moto). I am so proud of my sons and daughters-in-law. They are great parents and are doing well in their careers. I love being a mom and grandma! I love to travel and took my first trip to England and Scotland two weeks after 9/11. It was an adventure snd I have been back 2 more times. I have been trying to see more of the USA and think we have been so richly blessed with a vried and beautiful country. I had my first trip to Hawaii In Oct. 2009. I definitely hope to return and see more of the islands. I'm a figure skating and sports fan as an observer. Love to cook and listen to audio books. Have many fond memories of my days at Lakeview. Lost all my yearbooks (except my senior year) and many high school momentos in a fire but haven't lost all my memory yet, though this aging is worrisome...can't see, hear, move, or remember as well as I used to. I have to laugh at myself a lot!!! I would welcome emails from any of you. I feel I have been so blessed with family and friends and cherish my memories of the great experiences, fun and life lessons I learned at Lakeview. Marti
