Martha Hathaway:

CLASS OF 1980
South haven, MI

Martha's Story

I worked at South Haven Hospital from 1980 until 1989 when I moved to Chicago. I loved living in Chicago. I worked in the accounting department at a distribution company for 30 years. Met many wonderful friends while living there. In 2016, I had a stroke. I realized after working 12-14 hours a day for 30 years and having a stroke, life was more precious than having a nice house and car. After my stroke, I realized everything happens for a reason. I had a long road ahead of me to recovery. After years ...Expand for more
of therapy. I can walk again, with the help of a walker. I am happy to say, the stroke never affected my brain and ability to remember the thing I loved doing, accounting. I was fired from my job that I loved (but not the place). I thought I would hate not working, but I love it. In a month, I start a new chapter. I bought a house in South Haven and will be moving in soon. I have lived with my brother since my stroke but am now ready to go out on my own. Hope to see all of you at the next reunion. 😊
