Martha's Story
I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right. I went to Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in Flint. My senior year of Nursing School I enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps. That same year, I met Dean, my husband of 35 years. Before we got married, I served at Ft Riley Ks. and left active duty in 73. Dean & I got married that year at St. Luke's in Flint. Jeanette Matsco Welsh was in my wedding. We lived in Indiana for 12 years and that's where our three sons were born in 76, 79, and 81. We spent a short time in MI before moving our family to Wylie TX in 88. m the military with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 96. After Desert Storm and a "midlife crisis" I went back to school and received my teaching certificate and have worked for our local school district since 92. I teach 6th grade math and science. Our sons have all stayed in TX. Our youngest, Kurt, gave us our first granchild, Connor, in 2006. Jonathan, our middle son finally brought a little girl into the family. Natalie wsa born in Aug 08.
My dad came to live with us a couple years ago after my mom passed away. He stays with us from Dec to May when he spends the rest of the year with my brother's family in Toledo. People at school call me the reality show queen. I know it's not quality tv, but it amuses me to watch people and how they handle life. I hope to reconnect with old friends and maybe make new ones with those classmates I didn't know very well back in high school.
