Martha's Story
Life
Still thinking of things to do when retirement sets in - like rocking babies in the nursery at Emanuel, really learning how to use my digital camera, trying to understand the books the Evening Group picks at the MAC book club! Or re-learning French! Enjoyed a cruise to Alaska with the MAC; would love to re-visit Switzerland some day. MAC offered a trip to Ecuador/ Galapagos Islands in 2007 - tempting but I didn't make it. Had spent a month in Ecuador but missed the Islands. I still haunt the Goodwill for bargains and sell on EBay - mostly men's neckties. Leveled out at 5 grandkids ages 24 to 9,none in Portland. They are just a train/plane ride away and they all visited last summer!! Didn't retire at 65 and have celebrated 28 years of employment with Legacy Health Systems! But I do like that SS check every month! :O) Life is wonderful. Great to catch up with all of you!
School
Lincoln was a kick - name blouses, rock and roll parties at Skyline Memorial Gardens, summers at Gearhart and the fortune teller machine in Seaside, going with 4 fellow Cardettes when we "faked our way" into having drinks at Benson Hotel, best friends (some of whom are still best friends), rally squad and flag dances, Barb Kendall(trying)to teach me the time step!!!!!, having parties at my Mom's house, things I did not tell my kids I did!!!!!
College
In my short career at U of O................it was great while it lasted!
Workplace
Have worked as RN since 1981 when I graduated Good Sam's Nursing School (Portland); worked in Orthopedi...Expand for more
cs/Neurology/General Surgery before moving the Emanuel's Pre-Admission Nurses Service which is where I am now and JUST LOVE IT! For 7 years another RN and I ran a business called Jollyology Lab. Inc. We taught health care professionals how to "lighten up." We ran around town in clown suits until our accountant said to get real or get out - Oregon only allows 5 years of deficit financing in business until you have to quit! Prior to nursing school I worked for "my children's father" in the drafting business he started and prior to that worked at the American Psychiatric Association in Washington, DC.
I also "sell" on EBay and have for past few of years. Two pals at work showed me the ropes, and now I only shop the Goodwill and other interesting thrift shops (great bargains out there if you're willing to spend the time to hunt!!!!) Life is fun and still interesting.
