Marti's Story
Oct 2008: I am still living in Andover with my family. My husband, Bob, and I will be married 30 years in 2009! We are empty-nesters, at least for now! 3 out of our 4 children graduated college in the past year. 4 in college at the same time was a bit rough but we made it! Now the recovery time will be with us all the way to retirement! Our children are Megan, 24; Jared, 23; Derek, 22; and Alana, 21.
We have also entered the next chapter of our lives because we recently became grandparents! Our youngest daughter, Alana, has given us a beautiful granddaughter, Kaylin, born Dec 5th, 2007. She and her boyfriend have just moved to Connecticut. Alana will continue her studies in early childhood education as soon as her own family adjusts to the move.
Megan has been on her own since her sophmore year in college. She graduated this past May (2008) from Regis College with a Nursing Degree and has since passed her RN boards! She started working this September as a nurse and lives in Peabody with her boyfriend.
Jared graduated last December (2007) from Embry Riddle Aeronautical ...Expand for more
University in Daytona Beach. He has a BS in Aeronautical Engineering and now works for a French private jet company in Arkansas. We are hoping to get him back to the East Coast soon. He is single at present and having a great time with his motorcycle and flying remote-control airplanes.
Derek, our younger son, also graduated this May (2008) from UMASS Amherst. He received a BA in Communications and a Certificate in Film Studies. Derek recently moved to Somerville with friends and enjoying his freedom. If anyone has any connections with TV or film industry, he could use some help to land a position to get behind a camera!
I had been working at Lahey as a Med-Surg RN for the last 7 years. I also was teaching Regis College RN students as a Clinical Instructor for the last 4 years. However, since my children's lives are in transitional turmoil, I have decided to take the summer off and be available to them. If they are successful (i.e. financially independent-ha, ha, ha!), then Bob and I can really smile!!!! Hopefully I will return to the medical world before the holiday season.
