Marti's Story
Life
Happily living in the greater Seattle area, I am raising one child as a single parent while working at his former elementary school with special-needs children. In my free time, I go out dancing or sit at home and curl up with a book. Occasionally, I fill in as a karaoke host at a little neighborhood bar in Richmond Beach. I'm at a loss for words, but I still talk a lot. Seriously. And I'm still a dorky nerd-girl too.
Why is it that I can't just say I'm "single?" I'm not really loving it nor hating it; it's just the way it is.
School

to friends what I was like in high school, I tell them that I was just like Mary Catherine Gallagher, only without being Catholic.
Workplace
I started working at my son's school after volunteering for many years. It's not what I planned on doing, but I love it, and since I only work the same hours my son is in school, I don't have to deal with childcare. (Nor they with us, which seems the real problem.) I work with young children with a variety of issues from developmental delays to severe autism. The pay isn't worth the work, but the kids are definitely worth it.
