Martin's Story

Life As you can see, I have attended a number of schools during my lifetime, starting with Garfield, Roosevelt, Humboldt, Mechanic Arts, Blue Earth, Huntley, Rasmussen, University of Minnesota, and the Minneapolis Technical Institute. In addition, since I only attended Mechanic Arts the last several months of high school prior to graduating, I consider Humboldt my high school. My last year of high school was somewhat difficult considering I was focused on finding out who I am, as well as a number of questions regarding my sexuality but that is another story. My jobs range from farm worker, carhop, factory worker, circuit board assembler/welder, file clerk, concession stand worker at HHH Metronome, go-go dancer, clerk typist, secretary, legal secretary, and now a senior administrative assistant for a federal banking regulatory agency in there Legal Division. In the nursing field, I worked at every major hospital in the Twin Cities and San Francisco, and even Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles working in various departments, e.g., emergency rooms, coronary care unit, medical care unit, adult/child psych wards, ambulance, recovery room, burn unit, pediatrics, private duty, and even a few nursing homes. I did attend the University of Minnesota for a number of years thinking of becoming a nurse but did not graduate and may be I will do something with all those credits. In the mid 70's I visited a friend and his wife for several months that lived in San Jose, CA who showed me around San Francisco, which was a lot different from St. Paul. In the late 70 moved to Hollywood (only a block and a half from Grauman’s Chinese Theatre), stayed with my brother for about a year, and met many nice people, which was great. I got a job right away working at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood in the coronary care unit monitoring the telemetry and interpreting EKGs fo...Expand for more
r doctors. In the late 70's I moved back to St. Paul and lived in Minneapolis and then took a long drive east to Chicago, Detroit, Niagara Fall, NY, DC, Atlanta, Miami, and Key West. Sold the car and moved to San Francisco and lived there for 6 months then went to Europe, England, Scotland, Amsterdam, Germany, and Mallorca. Moved back to Minneapolis and worked for juvenile court as a file clerk. I like working in the legal system that I went back to school at the Minneapolis Technical Institute to may be become a court reporter but it was too expensive so I settled for becoming a legal secretary and running a small office and avoiding getting into debt. I worked at this time at the Metronome and as a go-go dancer, which was fun. Considering I am on the shy side, I always thought it funny that I would do these types of jobs where I needed to be visible but I guess it was on a different level and not on a personal level, which was OK. I have been to Europe a number of times and moved to San Francisco in the mid 80’s and have now lived here almost half my lifetime and probably will never move back Minnesota. Next year I will be celebrating 25 years working for the federal government, which is still hard to believe and my salary is so much more than I could have ever imagined compared to what I probably would be receiving if I still lived in the Twin Cities. Since living in San Francisco I tried to go to the gym as much as possible, I have run a number of marathons, and still try to do some running and biking but with 7 feet operations, knee surgery, and broken ankle a few years ago, it can be hard to get started but I try. I will post some pictures of me over the years and once I get all my new tattoos, I will then post a picture of me today. This is starting to get too long to continue and will answer any questions if I can for those who ask. Thanks.
