Martin's Story

Greetings fellow Pius X Alum, I'm coming to terms with the fact that this year marks twenty years since high school graduation. Fortunately life after high school has been exciting. After Pius X, I went away to college at San Francisco State University and studied film. My time spent in northern California was eye-opening, liberating and lots of fun. After earning my B.A, I decided to spend the summer in Europe backpacking throughout England, Ireland, France, Switzerland and Italy. This journey would give me a new passion in life-traveling. This excursion would be the first of many globe trekking adventures in the years to come. Shortly after I returned home to Los Angeles. I began a fellowship with a group of filmmakers earning their Masters in production at USC. I served as the associate producer for for the first thesis film ever shot in High Definition. The film was titled Jacob's Gift. For years I continued working on several other short films and small projects. I also freelanced for a documentary group called Forever Studios. It was there where I would take up an interest in documentary filmmaking. Like many other aspiring filmmakers, I found myself feeling discouraged. Against my creative judgement, I decided to take a position with an Investment Firm in downtown Los Angeles. For close to a decade I worked in the Financial Services Industry as a securities licensed Registered Representative. Most days were challenging but this career did provide me lots of freedom...Expand for more
. As most of you know this industry has crumbled before our very eyes leaving me at a professional crossroad. Fortunately my fiancee Teresa has a steady consulting position with a reputable publishing company. My greatest blessing thus far has been meeting this extraordinary well-rounded woman. We have a beautiful home in Sherman Oaks. We enjoy home renovations, attending concerts, dining at new restaurants, BBQing with friends, visiting new exhibits, and attending dodgers/lakers/bruins games. Teresa is a proud UCLA alumnus and sports enthusiast. When we're not keeping ourselves busy at home, then we're probably out of town. And sometimes out of the country for that matter. We've traveled to most major U.S Cities. And abroad we've traveled to Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium,Italy, France, Czech Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Spain. (photos have been posted on this site) Mostly recently, we were privileged to attend the 2009 Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C. It was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. For now, I'm content working at Warner Bros. studios in Burbank with the tourism department. I'm certain this experience will offer new opportunities down the road. "Life is a Journey", has always been my fitting motto. Well, that's the "cliff notes" version of my life after high school. I hope anyone who ever referred to me as a friend has a life filled with health, wealth and wisdom. Best Regards- Martin Duran Pius X Class of 1989
