Martin's Story
Well not very exciting stuff to talk about. After HS I had a rather unsuccessful stint as a student at SBVC. I was then drafted and ended up in the 4th Infantry Division in the Central Highlands (near Pleiku) in Vietnam. I started out as an 11B10 Infantry and ended up as a valor awards writer. After coming back I went to USC and also worked in the USC Medical School doing viral oncology. (Cancer related to virus) I then headed up to Palo Alto and continued the work at Stanford University, School of Medicine. I then got married (1st time) and we moved to Willow Glen (near San Jose). I worked for United Technologies, Chemical Systems Division doing research into finding a chelation mechanism for lead and lead paints. I then went to Lawrence Livermore National Labs to do some work on developing a target for the Shiva laser out of sodium silicate. I left the Lab for Silicon Valley and developed color tonors for a Xerox Co, Versatec. In the mean time I went to Semi Gas Systems and i...Expand for more
nvented a gas purifier which brought me Intel Corporation. At Intel I managed all the gas delivery systems and recommended all the gases Intel uses today. I stayed with Intel till I retired in 1998. Some friends and I tried a startup and went through $460 million and never were able to develop a product. During this time I married a second time. (No although Mormon I don't have two wives, I was previously d1vorced) I am presenly at Lawrence Livermore National Labs for my second tour doing research into National Ignition stuff and will probably head up a solar panel research effort, then will hand off in a couple of years.
I live in Cupertino with Les, who is a Sr Vice President and CIO. All the kids are out of the house so she has decided to get an MBA to keep her mind clear. The only thing of interest right now is a friend of mine, Tom Campbell is running for Senate. Hope he makes it as I have known him for over 20 years and he is the smartest and most honest person I know.
