Martin's Story
After High School I worked in Missoula at a Logging Mill while I attended the University of Montana.
I then got interested in a career with the United States Border Patrol, at the time a division of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). On January 6, 1969, I joined the U.S Border Patrol. My first duty station was located at Calexico, California. I remained in the Border Patrol, transferring to various locations, until 1979.
During the remainder of my career I occupied a variety of positions within the INS. My most enjoyable were my assignments to the INS Office at the American Consulate in Mexico City, Mexico, and later, to the INS office located in Tijuana, Mexico.
During my last ten years (1992-2002), I was the Assistant Director of the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the largest land border Port of Entry in the United States, located between San Diego, California, and Tijuana, Mexico.

on November 2, 2002. I could not have dreamed of a better, more interesting, and satisfying career.
I remained retired for approximately six months, got bored, and thereafter accepted a part-time job with a local Harley-Davidson Motorcycle dealer. This job was a natural for me since I have been riding Harley's for over 40 years. I am still working for Harley as of 2/15/2020, as the Parts and Accessories Department Manager, and having a wonderful time.. It's been a good life.
I have one son, born in 1965, and one daughter, born in 1971. I am presently single and have loved living in the San Diego, California area (in spite of the earthquakes) since 1975.
I return to Missoula at least once a year to see how things have changed.
I have seriously considered moving back to Missoula but am not certain I could tolerate the cold weather again. Been in sunny Southern California too long I guess. But I have always missed Missoula.
