Class of 1985.
I joined the United States Navy October 1986. Trained as a Stinger Gunner at Fort Bliss Army Base in El Paso,Texas Texas for 2 months and then was sent over to the Persian Gulf with my unit in April 1987. Stark was at. Liberty was recalled and everyone was to head back to their respective ships that was in port. About 50+ sailors and myself where left behind as our tugboat broke down while getting ready to take us to the Conyngham. We ended up staying on board the Command Middle East Flagship USS La Salle AGF-3 and transported to our ship the next day. It was not a sight to see as the doors opened for the landing craft to set sail and take us to our ship. The Stark was still on fire and listing. The sailors from the Stark, my ship and a few others fought hard to fight the fires and kept the ship from sinking. My ship towed the USS Stark back to Bahrain for repairs the following day.
Rest In Peace Shipmates! I will not forget you all!
