Martin's Story

Worked all through high school at Bartek Richfield truck stop in Wilmington and Shady Acres Mini Golf in Long Beach. . Joined the Navy Reserves early June 1966. Graduated in June 1966. Went active duty on October 66. Went to Boot Camp in San Diego. Electronics Technician 'A' in San Diego and Treasure Island, San Francisco. First ship in Long Beach , USS Galveston CLG 3 in May 1968. Transferred to USS Rupertus DD 851 Ship moved to Japan in July 68. Spent the next two years in and out of Viet Nam. July 1970 transferred to USNTC Morocco, Air/Ground communications technician advisor to Moroccan Air Force. November 1971 transferred to Naval Advisory Group Viet Nam via Defense Language Institute Monterey CA. After Cease Fire in Feb. 1972 transferred to Morocco at the Naval Communication Station Bouknadel. Left NCS Morocco in July 1976 to Naval Air Station Lemoore via NAS Millington TN for six months or Ground Control Approach radar training. Got ma...Expand for more
rried in 1976. Transferred to USS KISKA AE-35 in Jan 1980 via CRYPTO training in Mare Island CA. Completed tow IO tours and transferred in 1983 to FIT San Pedro CA building new construction Frigates in I retired from the Navy in October 1986. Naval experience led to a job in Port Hueneme CA outfitting the same frigates I had earlier construction. Transferred to the AEGIS program as a CNO availability Combat Systems Planner. Spent the following 25 years traveling the country and world inspecting AEGIS CG-47 Class Cruisers and DDG-51 Class Destroyers. Places visited include on the job, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Jubal Ali, Bahrain, Australia, Most every state on the East, West and Gulf coast. Retired from Federal Service in June 2013. Significant events: Married Brenda tin Nov.2001, Liver transplant Sept.2001 Built a house in Olongapo Philippines 2013. We now split our time between Olongapo and Ventura CA. mglewissr1124 yahoo
