Marvel's Story

Life I started to school in the Epsicopal Church, as the CC school had burned that year and was in a state of being refurbished (left off the 3rd story, as I understand it). Later, part of the class from the Episcopal Church was transferred to the First Baptist Church until the schoolhouse was finished and ready for occupancy. I was in Mrs. Shepherd's(sp)1st grade class. Mrs. Jesup's 2nd grade; Mrs. Wilson 3rd grade; Mrs. Colvard 4th grade; Miss Battle 5th grade; Mrs Risbeck 6th grade; from 7-12, I had many and various teachers, as there were 6 periods of 50 minutes each, with 10 minutes between classes. We did not have armed guards (sheriff's resource officers)to maintain order in the halls or the classrooms, nor cousellors to hold meetings to console us when things did not go our way. We just dealt with problems as they came our way. And yes, I still remember having to memorize Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and parts of the "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and then, there was "whan Zepherus eke with his swete breth, inspired hath and every holt and heth, the tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne hath in the ram his halfe coors y roone", or something like that. nd remember and try to apply MDAS as best I could. I still feel that the teachers felt sorry for me (or they could have made a resolution to not have me again in their class -- I could have been that bad!). Anyhow, by the skin of my teeth, I made it through 12 years of high school and then I crammed 2 years of college into 4 years. Later, as our country went to war, I continued hearing goofy news reports. I joined the Florida National Guard, went to OCS, volunteered to serve in RVN to see about those goofy reports -- lived through that. Came home to a changed America -- but I had changed, also. I kept quiet. I listened to others and particularly those who told stories about their adventures in RVN -- caught some in outright fabrication. I have, though, within the last 10 years or so, been able to talk about things that happened, but have to be in the mood so to do. I got saved after coming home from Active Duty (March 16, 1973) and have never been the same since. I am a saved sinner now, knowing that the blood of Jesus Christ has covered ALL my sins --past, present and future. I have been blessed beyond my feeble capability to accept. I went back into the Florida Guard in 1983 and retired from it in 2000. I am still gainfully employed and look forward to bothering people for a long time.
