Marvin's Story
I graduated in 79. I served in th US Navy 80-84 as part fighter squadron-32 attached to the aircraft carrier Independence cv-62. Was a part of operation Urgent Fury. the invasion of Granada. Did 2 deployments as part of the multi-national peace keeping force Beriut Lebanon (it was far from peaceful,it was like the 4th of July).In christmas of 83 Bob Hope did his USO show on the USS Independence while docked in Haifa Israel.It was a great honor to meet him. Also with him were Brook, Shields Cathy Lee Crosby,Miss USA.Ann Jillian and others.I also in that time I got to see Greece,Italy,Turkey and England.Also we participated in war games in the Arctic Circle.1984 came home to Gallup continued rodeoing and took up bicycle road racing, Rode with the Rio Grande Racing Team till 86 then moved to Phoenix where I now call home. I competed in many road races for team STRADA for many years and also competed in the 92 US National Duathlon Championships and the Open race at the 92 Desert princes World Duathlon Championships before slowing down so I could ride broncs in the PRCA and at 40 yrs old competed in the National Senior Pro Rodeo Assn.Injuries have now put me out.I learned how to play...Expand for more
ice hockey and played Ice hockey for a few adult hockey teams here as a defenceman and attended many ice hockey camps through out the US. I also got to teach and coach some mite and mini-mite hockey teams.Now in 2008 I returned to bike racing and now 2009 I've returned to racing once again for STRADA racing as a senior road racer competiting In the 09 Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. A 50 mile race from Durango Co to Silverton Co. The first of many races this year.Next year I think I will be old enough to compete in the Arizona Senior Road Racing Championships.That is my goal now in which I've already started my training.I also love spending christmas and new years in Spain and also return to Portugal each year as well. I've ventured to many other countries as well and like learning there history,culture and customes.I've found each country is beautiful in I'ts own way.I love going to there museum's, you can learn much about there history through there paintings and artifacts.I spend a lot of my time over there just walking among the local people.I've found I'ts the best way to experience there culture and way of every day living.Some is good some not so good.No country is perfect.
