More about Mary:"July 2010: I signed up for a Facebook account three years ago and thought it would be fun to see how long I could go without having any friends—maybe set the record. Is three years a record? Then I recently learned that they disabled my account, shaming me for not having any friends. Anyway, I decided it would be more practical to actually use this tool for its intended purpose, and most likely, I would have more fun if I had friends. I think too it’s an obligation to be counted among the 500 million people using Facebook, especially for boomers like me who need to stay connected to our children and the next generations. One thing I’ve learned is that Facebook is like sending a Christmas letter every day to 1000 of your closest friends and family, so here is my submission:
Happy Holidays! I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and spirits. Life is good for our family. Todd and I have been married now for 30 years. I still love him more than a one-armed sailor and to the moon and back. Todd continues his work as the Director of MIS for the Denver Metro YMCA’s. He’s still the only person I’ve known who has never said, “I need to start exercising again.” --because he’s never stopped. I guess that speaks to his drive for good health and the fact that he doesn’t need to style his hair. I began serving as the...Expand for more
Director of Professional Development for CASE in January 2009, after serving as the Executive Director of JCAA for over 14 years. I miss my colleagues in Jeffco, but I’m proud to be part of a state-wide organization that supports K-12 public education and the administrators who are doing amazing work for our kids every day.
Todd and I enjoy our empty nest lifestyle when we can and moved to the mountains several years ago to be closer to the activities we enjoy and nature’s gifts. Our oldest son, Matt, is a Project Engineer with a firm in Denver and absolutely loves his job. He’s had career-enriching experiences already, including flying remote control helicopters and working on cutting edge engine technology. He bought a home in the Wash Park area a couple years ago and lives the Nuevo-urban lifestyle, complete with a dog and 1950’s-style bicycle cruiser. Our youngest son, Tyler, is starting Veterinary school in Scotland this fall. I think the name of the school is Hogwarts? (…sorry I stole your joke, Ty.) Actually, he’ll be studying at the University of Edinburgh for the next 5 years, and Edinburgh does happen to look a lot like Hogsmead. I will miss him terribly, but I’m so happy the 5-year-old little boy who wanted nothing more than to be a Veterinarian will see his dream come true.
I’m looking forward to reading all your profiles and monitoring the digital footprint my nieces and nephews are leaving on Facebook! My best to you, my friends, and may you have a Happy New Year!".
