Mary's Story

Life Hi Everyone! I finally decided to join Classmates, and hope to chat with some of the Southwest Class of 1966! I can't beileve that it will be 40 years next year since we graduated! I live in Lakeville, MN. My Husband, George, died this past August of a brain tumor. We were married 33 years. We have a Daughter, Laura, who is 31, and lives in Appleton, WI. Our Son Matthew is 23, and is living with me and going to school at the U of M, Minneapolis. I also have two Step-Son's(one married) one Step-Daughter (married), and four Step-Granchildren (3 girls and a boy). And of course my dog, Jake! George was retired after 33 yrs. with General Motors Corp. (Parts Division)...Expand for more
. We left the Minneapolis area in 1978, and moved around the country for 19 years. We moved to Lakeville in 1997. At the time of his illness, we were both working for Schmitty & Son's Bus Co. in Lakeville. George drove a special needs small bus, and I was his aide. We enjoyed working together. Before I worked with him, I worked for New Horizon Child Care in Lakeville for six years, which I enjoyed. I also did day care when we lived in Billings, MT., and the Detroit, MI. area. I am not working right now, just taking a breather from my 19 months of caregiving for my Husband. I would love to hear from anyone who cares to contact me. Thanks. Mary (Van Horn) Beckman
