Mary's Story
Life
I suppose I am one of the ones who took off and litterally never looked or came back. Since I moved away from our little one square mile town I have lived in Phoenix, Houston, Bologna, Italy (yes Italy) and now am back in Phoenix (I just love the weather). I have lost touch with every single person from high school and haven't spoken or emailed anyone in many years. Although my sister does occassionally provide me some gossip.
After moving to Phoenix, I went back to school to finish my bachelor's and then obtained a MBA. I majored in Accounting (believe it or not) and am now a CPA. When I left I had been working for Costco for many years, but after leaving I went to work for a small oil company called Tosco (think 76 gas stations) who was puchased by Phillips Petroleum about a week after I started with them, who a year later merged with Conoco. So I ended up working for ConocoPhillips, the 7th largest company in the country at a surprisingly senior management level (believe me, no one was more surprised than me....timing is EVERYTHING). heardquarter relocations (those were fun), I left ConocoPhillips, moved back to Phoenix (from Houston) and joined a consulting company.
I have been very lucky in my consulting career and have been working for two global companies for the past two years which has enabled me to travel all over the world. As a matter of fact, I just returned home from Brazil (Rio & Sao Paulo) and am preparing to head to Amsterdam and Russia in a week. I also spent the past Thanksgiving in Barcelona and was in Paris during the riots....fun.
While living in Italy for a little over a year, I had intense langauage lessons and can now speak Italian fairly well. I actually took to it pretty easily so I have started Spanish lessons again to try and pry out of my brain everything Mr. Gallo taught me 20 years ago! He would be very proud. Spanish was my worst subject...who knew I'd be the one to end up speaking multiple languages.
Since I look at these profiles occasionally and can never tell when things were written, I am posting the date as well. Today is March 15, 2006 (ides of March...et tu Brute?....never mind)
